We are at the end of another year. It leaves me with a question; What makes the difference between 31 December and 1 January, is it not just another day or is it 2008 and 2009 that makes a difference?

Motivating other
To lead by example : To personally know where you are going people will be interested to listen.
People are more interested in how much you care than how much you know. Having compation with other.
Support and encourage other, be the cheerleader. It’s about them.
To be able to be inspired by other, your own source of energy. Read, one of my mentors once said all people that do not read are also illiterate.
Share your experience, by being a mentor, not through arrogance.
One can never build trust without being vulnerable.
Proud fullness is build through war stories, so tell those stories.
Communicate informal, formal, in the hallways, as much as you can, and remember listening is the most important part of communication.
People love to be challenged, as they the know you believe in them.
Enjoy your week.

Trust
• noun 1 firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something. 2 acceptance of the truth of a statement without evidence or investigation. 3 the state of being responsible for someone or something.
Personally I do believe trust is like the old story of what comes first the egg or the chicken, meaning that trust starts with own trustworthiness.
Know what must I do to be trustworthy, I do believe firstly one must be consistent, secondly one must be dependable and lastly competent.
Consistent: There must be congruence between one’s personality and personality, so what people see everyday will be authentic to how we feel inside our bodies. That will lead to us to be consistent in our behavior.
Dependable: What we say and what we do is the same thing. We would rather say no, than yes, and never do it. This also reflects a part of really caring for people and also respecting other.
The above talks for me to character, I do believe in abundance, I want to serve other, I want to contribute to other with my gifts. I can offer something unique to the world.
Competence: I can not do something, if I do not have the skill, ability or the resources.

Emptiness
Some seek to know what will happen in the future by visiting palm readers and other forms of what does life hold for me….
Other will engage in busyness, always on the run… is it running away from what really hurt or is it running away from pain?
Is the emptiness not perhaps due to vacuum in the human sole, which can only be filled by The Creator?
Sin creates emptiness. God create abundant life.
So I must ask myself?
Do I make enough time for Jesus?
Do I listen to what the Lord say to me?
Does my daily life reflect me praising the Lord?
Enjoy your weekend.

Lost
by David Wagoner
Stand still. The trees ahead and bushes beside you
Are not lost. Wherever you are is called Here,
And you must treat it as a powerful stranger.
Must ask permission to know it and be known.
The forest breathes. Listen. It answers,
I have made this place around you
If you leave it, you may come back again, saying Here.
No two trees are the same to Raven,
No two branches are the same to Wren.
If what a tree or a bush does is lost on you,
You are surely lost. Stand still. The forest knows
Where you are. You must let it find you.

Pessimist vs Optimist
Permanence: Pessimist believes that all bad things that happen will keep on happening for ever and will also recur. If it is raining on the first day of the holiday, it will rain for the rest of the holiday.
Pervasive: If I spill the coffee on my lap at the breakfast table, the rest of the day will be bad. When things don’t work out in the rest of Africa, South-Africa and the world will follow suit? One incident made Universal.
Personalized: Everything that I do is my fault. It happened to me due to the fact that I am so “bad”.
"When it is dark enough, you can see the stars." ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
However in a study done around optimism the following three C’s form the basis of being able to rebound and being optimistic:
Challenge: The “situation” is seen as a challenge, a opportunity to grow and learn.
Control: The optimist’s know that they can’t always control what happens to them, but how they will react to the situation.
Commitment: Optimists make a commitment to engage in the situation and to make a contribution to make the best of it. They take action.

Money…Saving
Meaning that should you retire with an annual salary of R 100 000 you would only receive a pension of R 28 000 per annum. A big reason for this is that the average South African do not invest there money when they move between jobs but use it on “non-retirement” stuff.
Another study that was done by a company in the UK looked at the factors that was important for a successful retirement plan and listed the following:
Decide to draw up a plan for retirement
Decide how much you can contribute towards your plan
Review the plan from time to time
Decide on the “Vehicle” you will use for your investment, and the asset allocation.
Now the interesting part what contributed to a more successful plan and to better retirement provision?
Time, so the earlier you start, even with a smaller contribution is better?
Regular review of your plan, increase in contribution. Discipline.
The above process was enhanced by engaging with a trusted advisor to facilitate the process, and keep one accountable to the plan.
The above is not to give advice, but just too engage some thoughts…..

Purposefull living
I believe God made me for a purpose, but he also made me fast. And when I run I feel His pleasure.
I was pondering on these words and the following thoughts came to mind:
To be able to live life with passion I must be living life to the fullest. To be able to do that I must be contributing to the world by sharing my gifts.
However I must trust God and not myself to be able to this.
I must be grateful, also for the so called small things. As that will create mindfulness and gratitude.
It will also create more energy as I will then be living integrated and I will be in a performance zone to perform and share.
May you have a wonderful week and perform in the zone to the benefit of God. The wonder is then we will also reap the harvest.

Thinking right...
The ability to Developing and innovate new things that will make the world more effective but not hurting the environment and to do it cheaper with less resources. Exercise: Keep a journal and mind map some ideas on a daily basis, begin with the obvious and explore the territory of the unobvious. Look around you at new designs, even next generation designs.
The ability to engage in storytelling, our life’s is stories, as business unfolds it is a story; why not deal with stories instead of facts. Start blogging and share your stories, next time you want to give the facts share it in a story.
Ben Zander refer to life as a Symphony, “put together”, why not stop for a moment next time one want to analyze and rather look at it, to say how can I create a symphony out of what I see and feel. Exercise: Listen to great symphonies, create your own symphonies by putting pieces together, and remember there is no right or wrong. Brainstorm.
Shoes, develop the competency to really put yourself in somebody else’s shoes. To be able to show empathy, and I do believe it also relate to our ability to show compation.
Playfulness. Enough was said about this over the last few days.
Creating meaning out of live, connect with your spiritual and religious base. Exercise: Learn to be grateful, to something to somebody that cannot return the favor, get still for at least 10 min. a day. Think about what really give you joy in life.
Enjoy your evening.

Playfullness...
As children can also be very cruel or is it honest with each other and the impact of that on their community and the productivity of the environment.
So I had a discussion with my kids and quickly a few themes emerged:
Negative kids draw negative kids.
Positive kids need to avoid this energy or they are drawn in.
Positive kids, make constant long term contributions on all levels.
Short-term illusions is sometimes created that the Negative kids get results, which the positive kids do not get. However how Steven Covey puts it, Principals will always rule over the long-term.
So in future if I refer to being playful like a kid, it is with reference to the pure form of being like a kid.
Regards.

The being used for a purpose
Recognized by yourself as a mighty one.
The being a force of nature Instead of a feverish, selfish
Little clod of ailments and grievances
Complaining that the world will not
Devote itself to making you happy.
I am of the opinion that my life
Belongs to the whole community
And as long as I live,
It is my privilege to do for it
Whatever I can. I want to be thoroughly
Used up when I die,
For the harder I work the more I live.
I rejoice in life for its own sake.
Life is no brief candle to me.
It is a sort of splendid torch
Which I've got hold of
For the moment And I want to make it burn
As brightly as possible before
Handling it on to future generations

One
ONE
(U2 & Mary J Blight)
Is it getting better?
Or do you feel the same?
Will it make it easier on you now?
You got someone to blame
You say: one love, one life
When it’s one need in the night
One Love, we get to share it
Leaves you baby if you don’t care for it
Did I disappoint you
Or leave a bad taste in your mouth
You act like you never had love
And you want me to go without
Well it’s too late, tonight
To drag the past out into the light
We’re one, but we’re not the same
We get to carry each other, carry each other
Have you come here for forgiveness
Have you come to raise the dead
Have you come here to play Jesus
To the lepers in your head
Did I ask too much - more than a lot
You gave me nothing - now it’s all I got
We’re one, but we’re not the same
Well we hurt each other, then we do it again
You say: love is a temple - Love a higher law
Love is a temple - love the higher law
You ask me to enter - then you make me crawl
And I can’t be holding on to what you got
When all you got is hurt
One love, one blood
One life- you got to do what you should
One life with each other
Sisters, brothers
One life, but we’re not the same
We get to carry each other, carry each other
One – one
It always leave me with the questions in my own life:
How integrated and balanced are my life, do I life a life of one, or perhaps if fragmented what must be corrected?
Am I part of the universe and do I really have compation with other?
Enjoy your day.

The mind
Thoughts about the future or the past have a definite impact on the brain. It was determined through research that one can gain skills through observation and indirect experience. So make sure: you’re thoughts is part of your brains exercise to learn positive skills.
Playfulness…. The philosopher Henri Bergson wrote; “To exist is to change, to change is to mature, to mature is to create oneself endlessly.” The ways in which kids play have two beautiful skill building components to it to develop emotional and social skills. Through play they learn how to see the world out of different perspectives; they also learn how to interact with the world. Sometimes they get hurt, however they get back to the present and learn from the moment and enjoy it. To close on this Einstein said that imagination is more important than knowledge....I would agree with this, however I will add that dreams with out action/fun/playfulness is just dreams and we need to take action.
To read… it was discussed in this blog already, to be open to learn. This will help us to recognize the patterns of the world around us and to be able to act pro-actively to utilize the opportunities. It is also the learning of new languages to be able to describe new things in the world. (Right brain)
Expression of “language”, taking the new information and creating something new, being creative or innovative, expressing it in writing, art, what ever your natural or unnatural way of expressing, making food what ever. (Left Brain)
As a last thought…Yes, exercise is necessary to keep the body clock on the go but it is also good for the mind. The American Heart association currently recommends 30 min of moderate exercise a week. It rid the body of all the stress we toxic-ate it with.
Let’s do something playful, be a kid again, do some reading to stimulate our thinking and express ourselves in a wild way this weekend.

Production vs. Position
The following is central to the above according to “my world”:
It is said to be trust worthy one needs to be consistent in all circumstances, one need to be competent and lastly dependable.
One’s choices must be reflecting that one has all stakeholders at heart and not making choices to cover one’s own ass or playing for the crowd.
One must give recognition to the team members that contribute to even the small successes.
Did one realise that credibly is a victory and not a gift? I takes continues effort to build.
Lastly the above is in my mind all part of character. Now the question can be asked do I work on these elements of my character or am I building my image that I want the world to see?
Just as afterthoughts never forget good honest communication and feedback so that everybody knows what you think and do?
Best wishes on your journey of growth.

Learn from other...through reading
It is said that the way we look at the world, will result in our way of doing and that will lead to the results we get.
So what will keep us from getting new perspectives on life?
Let’s listen to the stories we hear, read and learn, and be open to see the world in a fresh perspective. Remember then to try it out…else it was nice to know

Happiness
Make happiness the priority
Personal Authenticity
Letting go of judgments
Being present
Being grateful
Deciding to be happy.
Looking at principal two to five, it leaves me with the thought that Mindfulness will be key to these principals.
Mindfulness can be described as the ability to stop for a moment or minutes and just to be, to be quite and to be aware of one’s thoughts but to direct it back to the moment or to one’s breathe.
“Mindfulness/Meditation can do that which nothing else can do, it introduces you to yourself.” Swami Rama.
What a way to stop: To learn one better, to be aware of our thoughts, to develop the discipline of presence and lastly to develop the skill to be able to evolve to a being to life live to its fullest.
Secondly to be grateful for the small things, I heard of somebody that got into the practice to say thank you everyday for something that they did not say thank you for before…. Make one think.

Values at work...
1 : God is central with, God’s massage of love,
Clock : God is 24/7 Central to each members life,
Plug : Time spend with God, to connect with God and get his message and power for one’s life. Prayer and “Being quite” before God.
Bread: Community with people, to share with the people one like and do not like.
Puzzle: Accept all people for their unique gifts they can contribute.
Shoes: Carry out the message of God, but also putting yourself in the shoes of other, to really understand their world.
Downward slope: Move away from the EGO, and always ask what Jesus will do in the situation.
This was a beautiful message that I will take with me on my journey through life.

Live life to its fullest...
This words let me think....then it takes my thoughts to the first verse of a poem of Russel Kelfer...
You are who you are for a reason.
You're part of an intricate plan.
You’re a precious and perfect unique design,
Called God’s special woman or man.
As we know life on earth is only temporary, why would we not live, life to the fullest to glorify God in everything we do?
Relax...
Take:
1 Cup Sea salt
1 Cup Baking soda
Put the above ingredients into the tub, now fill it up with nice warm water.
Lastly add your two or three drop of your favorite aromatic oil, lavender or peppermint what ever you are in the mode for.
Now jump in and relax for twenty minutes, preferable not longer as it can exhaust you if you spent too much time laying in the bath.

Leaders with chests….
I want to share a few thoughts on integral way of being. Where do we make decisions?
The sensation in or belly give a sensation in our body.
The feeling in our chest gives us a sensation about how we feel about the situation, influenced by our character and spirit.
Lastly our minds, where the decision are made. This is where we have choice; will I allow my chest and belly to give me direction, or am I going to let my decision be pure cognitive decisions.
An integral approach will take us to the next level.

Know how? I would refer to my world of know. What is my knowledge, what are my world views? Right or wrong does not matter.
How do I execute? This also refers to the process is follow. What is my Behaviour, emotions and thoughts regarding the matter? Secondly what is the language I use, with specific reference to my preferred sensory style? Thirdly the how in terms of the process?
How do I see? This in my mind refers to my values, my culture and my attitude?
This leaves me with the question, how does the above influence me to perform optimally?

Desire
You see the question I will ask myself in future is the following: Do I need something or do I have a desire to have it?
Desire then ego centric; I want vs. a specific need….

Leadership...If things does not work.
Sometimes things do not want to turn out as we want it, what can then be going wrong?
If we do not get out plans to execution we need to look at the following:
The hard stuff:
Do we have clear goals, not more than three crucial drivers, and everybody in the company is clear on it?
Roles. Who is responsible for what?
Processes. How must things be done? Are the tools to do the job in place? Is the process effective?
Soft stuff:
Process
Thinking = Climate / Culture / Attitude of employees and company
Who is responsible for decisions? Empowerment?
How is problems handled? Active or Reactive?
Communication.
Leadership style. Is it relevant to the cycle of the business? Is it adaptable for different scenarios?
Conflict, how is it dealt with?
Interpersonal
Diversity. To create innovation. To value people for what they can contribute.
Personality differences.
Trust???
Enjoy jour week.

The rat race...
Being realistic we all just have twenty four hours per day, so what we keep ourselves busy each day will determine the outcome of our lives. The question most probably is then what are the actions in our do lists?
Is it actions that take us nearer to our goals?
Is it actions whereby we live out our gifts?
Is it actions that create a legacy for us or is it to please other or to please our own ego’s?
Is our actions balanced to contribute to the following parts of our lives?
We must reflect on what we do to ourselves in this rat race, our days could be filled with joy living to the fullest each day, our just surviving.
What will people say looking back at your live, it was a live lived to create a legacy or will they put an inscription on your tombstone:
To do done
Dead anyway!

GOING WHERE?
However this time I trusted the GPS. So on my way, GPS set on the shortest route to the venue. So initially it took me on the roads I usually would have travelled. Then it started taking me on roads I did not now, and then on a fourteen kilometer dirt road and then another thirty k’s of dirt road.
Plus minus four k’s along this road, I got a sign; “traveling along this road is at your own risk.” So what now, do I go along or turn back and trust the “recalculation” for a better road. So I thought let I go ahead, the road was bad but the scenery beautiful.
Driving slowly and enjoying the scenery despite the adverse road conditions, my thoughts wondered to the words I so easy pray: “ Lord let your will be done.” As with the dirt road, I so easy start to wonder if the road is not what I expected, however the Lord will always get me to the destination in His time and in His way. So what would the reason be that I do not enjoy the ride? Is it that I do not trust, or is it that my Ego get’s in the way, or could it be that I just don’t want to let go?
May you have a wonderful weekend.
God bless.

Leadership
Self Awareness.
The ability to create and manage highly effective teams.
The ability to listen to diverse opinions.
Having a strong set of core values.
Interesting… again looking at these competencies how integrated they are and all starting with the self. Self I define as a conscious/mindful contributor, in this context.

Merry-go-round
How are you living your life, how am I living my life, as a happy chap or long faced and sorry for my self. The questions that we need most probably have to answer firstly to ourselves are the following:
· Am I happy?
· What am I living for?
· Are my thoughts in the past? Worry about things that I can not change.
· Are my thoughts in the future? Thoughts about things what might happen.
We must remember that I thought shape our lives.
Dr Andrew Weil once said the following:” Wherever nerves are, activities of the mind can travel.”So thoughts don’t only influence our moments of tomorrow in terms of our actions but also in terms of our health and our mood.
So lets remember the merry-go-round and keep our thoughts in the moment and enjoy each moment of the ride on the carousel….like kids.
Enjoy your week.

THOUGHT
Advise and counsel him; if he does not listen, let adversity teach him.
African proverb (Ethiopia)
Sunday, June 22, 2008
Inclusive relationships
Inclusive relationships, the world according to me are that humans are to live, life as communities, at work, at home to the benefit of the universe. As we are made to give and receive love. Secondly to be in community gives shared meaning to life. It is also a process of healing, support and development, for the giver as well as the receiver.
Where then the idea of inclusive relationships; it all starts on a level of each individual. What are our pure intention to contribute or not? The question then arise what is contribution? I would say it is when I “serve” somebody and they experience it as a contribution, now or in the future?
What will your contribution be to create mutual beneficial relationships? Think about it as you go through the week.
May your week be blessed!

Biggest room in the world…
How we see ourselves compared to how other see us is two different interpretations.
Most probably how your boss sees you compared to how the car-watch see you will also differ. The most important fact is to acknowledge my own short-comings and to grow accordingly. As the biggest room in world, is the room for self-improvement.
Now what can one do?
Create awareness of how we act in different situations and why?
Journal our days, so that we get into a habit of reflecting?
Sit somewhere during a day for at least five minutes and do nothing and also think of nothing? Quite the mind? Note the resistance in these moments.
Listen and look at others reactions?
I once read the following words: "If you want to change the world, change yourself".
Enjoy the quite moments during the weekend to reflect….

The law of community…
Each of these elements need to compliment each other so that the element can flourish as well as nature it self.
If we then look at us as human beings, all of us have our own unique gifts to offer. So why do we not firstly life to our fullest to offer our gifts to each other, and secondly why do we not accept other for their uniqueness they can offer to us and the communities?
Life your own uniqueness and value the unique in other…

Life is like a garden what you sow and cultivate .....
Life is like a garden what you sow and cultivate that is what you will reap.
Let’s explore the sow part first. What we sow refers in my mind to our thoughts and our actions. So it simple means what are we thinking and doing in the moment. Dwelling in the past or the future with no positive action in the now will take you and me no where.
However thing must be done with mindfulness, as we are human being and not doings… we will ponder on this on another day.
Point number two is the fact of cultivating… Life sometimes just happen, if this is “bad”, are we going to cultivate and even nurture these moments ore are we going to focus on the moment and the next thing that will take me to my dream, fulfilling my purpose?
May your moments create a blossoming garden in your life….

Knowledge
African proverb (Ghana)
Saturday, May 31, 2008
Looking back at the first 151 days of the year, it does not feel that the 1st of January is so distant in the past, looking forward the 31st of December also does not seem to be that distant, just 215 days away.
However standing still looking back will not change the moment, looking forward is only important to determine if I am still on tract to the destination I planned to reach during the year. However the jewel lie in the moment. The Moment will determine if there is action or no-action, if the action will take me to the desired destination. So what are we doing with the moments of being?

I once bought my kids a set of batteries for Christmas with a note on it saying, toys not included. (Bernard Manning)
Reading this, I was amused at first, but then it got me thinking: that's life. We are given the batteries but the toys are not included. We were born with God-given potential (the batteries) and it cannot be exhausted or used up. When we use our potential, we discover that the more you use it the more power you have. The amazing thing is that it can be developed when we live life. It's there for everyone, but how, where and when you use it, is your choice. You have the batteries, now you have to choose the "toys" that you are going to use it in.
Make a decision now to tap into your God-given potential (your batteries) and start using and developing it by choosing your "toys" wisely. Choose to use your potential constructively, to build yourself up, to be significant, and to be the best you could be.
Make it a great week

Would this then mean living a live by following the inner voice? I do believe it has something do do with this.
The question is then what would the reason then be that there are so many unhappy people in the world? Is it that we do not make time to listen to our soul and the spirit of The Lord, to get direction in our lives's.
Or are we afraid of becoming that, that the Lord had in mind for us to be?
Two key thoughts:
* Make time in your life to hear your inner voice and the Lord's directions for your life.
* Dream it and live it.
Remember life on earth is temporary. So what unique legacy should you to leave behind one day?
Saturday, April 12, 2008
Looking back on the week there was so much to be thankful for.
So what makes me tired? I worked with a gentleman years back and he always said that nothing as bad to spend energy on stuff that should have been done right the first time and especially if the distress was not a direct cause of one's own action.
This let me think about the saying that goes more or less as follow: Lord give the knowledge to know what I can change, and the power to deal with that I can not change.
Let's enjoy the weekend, to build energy for the next work week.
Craffies.
